Take the USB thumb drive out when you have to leave your PC and Predator will put your Windows-powered machine on lockdown. Insert the USB device when you get back, run the application, and you will easily unlock your PC. This is, in short, the sort of functionality you can expect to get from Predator. Go get it if you need an efficient means of protecting your PC.

Speaking about getting Predator, the first thing you must do is download an archive onto your PC. Inside the archive you will find an executable and a Microsoft installer. Run whichever you want and you will be presented with a setup wizard that will guide you through the installation process. A few clicks later you will be done.

When you launch Predator for the first time, you will be presented with a prompt that informs you that you need to plug in your USB thumb drive, create a key and set up a password from the Preferences panel. Click OK and you will be presented with the aforementioned Preferences panel that will allow you to create a key, enter a password, access some alarm options, and access some advanced options.

Predator works like this: at specific intervals of time it checks the key stored on your USB thumb drive. If you take out the USB drive, Predator will not find said key and will proceed to lock down your PC. When you plug in your USB drive, Predator will detect the key and unlock your device. From the aforementioned Preference pane you can change the monitoring interval, choose what happens when the PC is put on lockdown, choose the interface language, and so on.

Predator Free Edition is free for personal, non-commercial use. Please note hat some options are disabled in the Free Edition; get a one month trial for Predator Professional Edition to test these options. A detailed presentation of the differences between the Free and the Professional Edition are available on the official Predator website.

Make sure no one can play with your PC while you’re away. Use Predator to easily put it on lockdown and prevent unauthorized access.

Pros

You will spend little time on getting Predator up and running. Turn a USB thumb drive into a means of locking and unlocking your PC. There are several settings to play with. Predator Free Edition is free.

Cons

Some features are not available in the Free Edition; these features are reserved for the Professional Edition which is free to use for one month.
